Der Wahl-Berliner Soul Button hat es sich auch nicht nehmen lassen uns für ein kurzes Interview Rede und Antowort zu stehen. Hier das Resultat:

Hello Soul Button, please introduce yourself shortly.

Hello guys, I woudn’t say so much about me except that I’m not so young. I would focus more on the Soul Button project. I started to make music when I was 18, more than a quarter of a century ago, and Soul Button is just an evolution of my music ‘trip’. I just want to produce the music I really feel inside, without following a particular scene or a trend. I think the music needs to come back to the time where people were enjoying the music as product and not depending on the image of the artist and his collocation in the scene.
I don’t wanna sell my music only because a big label produces my tracks or because I’m a friend of a famous dj. I just want people to enjoy my music.

How did you find the way to music?

You mean, how did I approach the music? I was really young and I was listening to a song on the radio .. never heard something like that before … I was like “What’s that?” .. I asked .. and after days trying to discover something about that crazy music I found out they were Kraftwerk. After some years I bought my first drum machine, a really old Roland. Some months later I bought an AKAI sampler and when I was 19 I released my first vinyl. There wasn’t so much competition :D.

You are Part of Steyoyoke, a great Label that we really like! How did you find it?

Well, Steyoyoke is a great project, believe me, you will see in the future. Behind Steyoyoke there’s a group of nice, interesting and experienced people. We are all in Berlin, we know each other for a long time, everybody has his own role and we know how the music business works, so probably we know more about managing a label rather than the new dozens of labels that you can see every day. I like the spirit of the label. We just meet each other, sitting and drinking beers, and we all agreed with the idea to start again from zero, just focusing to produce good quality music. We are open-minded to everything and to everyone. We don’t want competitions with any other labels, I think we are just creators of sounds.

Your first EP Shadows is coming out on the 29th April, tell us something about it!
4.1. Where did you get the inspiration for it?

Yes I’m really excited, even because the vinyl is already in 18# position in the world house pre-sell chart. I’m sure people will enjoy it. I got super cool feedbacks so far and this is enough for me. I’m curious to see what people think of it.
It’s a three track EP. I would say 3 different tracks with the same “touch”, Soul Button’s touch. I really had fun to produce the single “Shadows”: I listened to the vocals for days and weeks, always in the night, smoking and buying Club Mate (energy drink) every half an hour. Every time I was going out to buy it I met different shadows of the night, walking on the streets of Kreuzerg, then I had the idea to make a song with a vocal talking about these shadows.

Your best and your worst moment on a gig?

I’ll be really quick because I answered to the same question some days ago. The worst experience was when a weird guy came in front of me while I was playing in a nice club and he spitted in my face .. really disgusting. The funny thing was that he said something like “cool, really great music”, before he spit on me.
The best experience was when I played at the Diesel fashion show. While I was playing they moved up the console and within 3 minutes I was at least 20 meter from the floor. Amazing. I had like 2000 people below me and I could see all the crowd dancing. I’ll never forget the adrenalin.

If you could choose, where would be your dream location to play. (all over the world)

Panorama Bar at 7 am. eheheh. The best and unique club in the world. It’s a place that it’s hard to say “it’s a beautiful club” but when you get in you will feel a vibe you can feel only there. And trust me I’ve been in many clubs.

I guess you‘re living in berlin now, you moved from london, right? – In which of these two cities is the better beer? – and the better music?

Yes I lived in London and I’m totally happy to live in Berlin now. I love Berlin. No doubts, the best city where you can find yourself in Europe. Beers?? I have to say that I really miss the GUINNESS from London. I was drinking liters of black guinness there, here is quite hard to find it.
Music? mmm .. the scene is completely different. London is “business”, Berlin is still “underground”. And you can notice it every day and in everything, especially in the music. In London Maya Jane Coles is a star but she would just be a good producer now, if she had started her career in Berlin. You know what I mean?
People from London love weird music, something that absolutely you can’t hear in Berlin. Artists like Spankrock who are completely famous in London are almost unknown in Berlin.

Last but not least,.. are you also speak german?

Anyway I want to learn but it’s quite hard in Berlin to learn german. Eveybody speaks english and even when you try to speak in german with some natives, they answer you in english. So .. fuck languages, there are so many other ways if you wanna communicate or interact with people. I make music for example!

“Thanks a lot guys, I loved to answer your questions.” – No, thank you SOUL BUTTON! … For the very nice interview and your great new EP!
